Nano Urea: Advancing Crop Nutrition for Efficiency & Sustainability

Nano Urea, developed using Nanotechnology, marks a significant advancement in nutrient delivery systems. It offers precise nutrient doses to crops, minimizing waste and environmental impact. In Bangladesh, where Urea demand is 2.9 million tons (source: BRRI), mostly for rice cultivation, Nano Urea presents a promising alternative to traditional methods, which typically achieve only 35-40% application efficiency compared to 80% with Nano Urea. Field trials across 11,000 farms in India have shown an 8% increase in yield with Nano Urea (source: IFFCO). Its application is straightforward, requiring mixing with water and spraying on crop leaves during active growth stages. One 500ml bottle of Nano Urea can replace one 35 kg bag of conventional Urea, cutting the requirements by up to 50% and reducing environmental impact. Its slow-release properties also benefit soil health by preventing nutrient leaching. Additionally, using two sprays of Nano Urea can reduce nitrogen fertilizer usage by 25-50% in wheat and mustard crops.
The widespread adoption of Nano Urea has the potential to significantly decrease the government's subsidy expenditure on Urea. This would result in substantial long-term cost savings for the country. Furthermore, it holds promise for advancing 4R nutrient stewardship (Right Source @ Right Rate, Right Time, Right Place) in the fertilizer industry by promoting precision and sustainability in agriculture. Its adoption promotes clean and green technology, as its industrial production is neither energy-intensive nor resource-consuming. Now, quick government approval is crucial to introduce nano urea in fields, which will reduce the subsidy pressure on urea for the government, reduce production cost for the farmers and improve the affordability for the ultimate consumers.
