ACI Seed developed ACI Gom 1 & ACI Gom 2
ACI Seed developed 2 new high-yielding wheat lines. These lines are developed for the first time by the private sector in Bangladesh. ACI Seed demonstrated its performance at six different districts of Bangladesh. In a field demonstration at Notun Bandar, Debiganj upazilla of Panchagar district, wheat farmers saw these varieties’ performance. They were impressed as the yield of the newly invented wheat lines is around 20% more than the traditional varieties of Bangladesh. These varieties contain 28-32% gluten which is the prime requirement for making bakery products and other industrial usages of wheat. Additional Director Mr. Sudhendro Nath Roy from Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Dinajpur, CSO, Breeder Seed Production Centre, Debiganj, Panchagarh Dr. Mohiuddin, Chief advisor ACI Seed, Business Director, General Manager Marketing and Sales, Principal Scientist and Scientist of ACI Seed were present at the event. Mr. Sudhendro Nath Roy thanked ACI seed for bringing the new HYV wheat for farmers. He is very hopeful about the performance of the new wheat lines and expecting that those will bring new hope for our wheat farmers.
In Bangladesh, around 80% of wheat grain is imported each year for preparing bakery items and for industrial purposes. Extension and popularization of ACI Gom 1 and ACI Gom 2 will reduce import dependency for wheat grain.
